Did you know that the chakra system is thought to have originated as long as 25,000 years ago?
Did you know that the theory of chakras originates from ancient India and is deeply connected to, and entwined with, the philosophy of yoga? It is estimated that this ancient model that describes the human energy system originated in India perhaps as long as 25,000 years ago.
So what is a chakra and what does it do?
The chakras are seven main energy points in the body that run vertically from bottom to top along the spine. They are considered ‘wheels’ of energy that regulate the flow of energy within our body. Each chakra constitutes a precious piece of the puzzle of human consciousness. They control our physical well-being, emotional stability and mental clarity.
They are a direct reflection of our spiritual state and mirror how we feel about ourselves and life in general. They can be opened too widely and create an over stimulation, or they can be closed and shut off from the abundance of prana or chi available to us.
How smoothly our chakras function determines how comfortable we feel in our physical bodies, how successful our relationships are and how much inner peace we are able to enjoy. Ideally our chakras will be nourished, vital, well balanced and awoken.
Each of the seven main chakras have their own ‘personalities’ with their own specific characteristics, traits and qualities. Each chakra embodies a specific vibration and frequency and this frequency translates to each of them resonating at a different colour.
When each of these charkas has been awoken to their full potential and are able to radiate their natural vitality, our lives are abundant, joyful, balanced and happy. We are able to bring every aspect of our lives into equilibrium. It’s important to say, this does not mean we will never have a bad day in our lives again. However, it does mean that we are at least better resourced to cope with any challenges that emerge in life and to have the internal wisdom to glean the gifts or blessings from any given situation.
We can be at our best, fullest and most empowered selves when the wellbeing of this powerful energetic system is intact. There are a range of ways to help each charka to function more efficiently. In addition to regular yoga practice there are: meditations, Reiki, dietary recommendations including grounding foods; and various other healing therapies and lifestyle adjustments.
So it is vital for our personal wellbeing that our chakra health is made a high priority. Any imbalances or blockages will ‘play out’ in our lives via our relationships, and the situations we co-create with others.
Over the coming weeks I will delve into each of the chakras to explore and demystify these powerful energies. For when we learn to master our own energy field, we can find a level of empowerment and vitality that enables us to find and fulfil our life purpose and unleash the positive power that lies within us.
