Have you ever noticed how it is our basic attitude is to say ‘no’? This is because when we say ‘yes’ we feel like we have no or very little authority. Wherever we go in life we will find people who are ‘no’ sayers because with ‘no’ we feel like we are someone simply because we are in a positon to say ‘no’, and this suggests at least on the surface that we have the power and authority to decide to reject something.
To say, ‘yes sir’ can makes us feel inferior and like we are subordinate to someone else and their desires and demands. And yet it is ’yes’ that is positive and ‘no’ that is negative. Osho reminds us that ‘no’ is ego fulfilling and ‘yes’ is the way to the discovery of the self. ‘No’ will strengthen the ego and ‘yes’ will help to destroy it.
Our natural response to life’s circumstances tends to be to say ‘no’ first, and if it’s impossible to say ‘no’, then with a defeated attitude we reluctantly say ‘yes’. What would happen if you started to say ‘yes’ and in particular you started to say ‘yes’ to your initiations?
The challenge to turn this around practice, for the next 24 hours, take a vow to start saying ‘yes’ in every situation. Look with deep relaxation at what the situation or the circumstances have to offer you. The things you say ‘yes’ to can be just ordinary things, simple things. Watch what happens. So for 24 hours say ‘yes’ to life, say ‘yes’ as your first response and watch with wonder at what happens.
