Living in a youth obsessed world it can be a challenge to find an acceptance within ourselves the harvest that can come with maturity. If we take time to really look we will find there are many blessing to be harvested as we mature and ripen within ourselves: peace of mind, flexibility, trust, and acceptance, to name a few. As we develop, we often come into our own power and stop spending time, energy, and money on things that no longer satisfy us.
Carl Jung, the eminent Swiss psychologist, believed that our natural ability to do what we choose rather than what we’re told to do strongly emerges during maturity, often after being submerged for many years. Although age is not the only factor determining whether or not we will find a rich harvest as we mature. There are however a myriad of experiences, if we choose to embrace them, that offer the opportunity to develop and evolve as we mature.
Did you know that when Sleeping Beauty wakes up, she is almost fifty years old? This is where the saying that life begins at forty comes from. In maturity there is a natural birth of selfhood which has been growing up until this time within the womb of the spirit.
The feminine within all women is aware of the cycle of life at a primal and cellular level. We know, we wait, we trust. We are attuned to the earth, moon, and sun because of our own cyclic nature, just as Mother Nature is attuned to her own sowing, growing, and harvesting cycle. It is a natural next step for us then to become attuned to and grateful for the ageing cycle of our life that brings with it increased freedom and maturity.
