1. Filling your life with busyness
Busyness that can occupy every moment with an endless array of tasks and responsibilities. And despite all your efforts and how hard you work the busyness and the list of things you need to attend to only seems to grow.
2. Telling everyone, including yourself, that you’re just fine.
When really inside you feel sad and a growing sense of dissatisfaction. A growing sense that there is something vital missing. And the more you try to project the façade that everything is good the sadder you feel. And the sadder you feel the more you find yourself resorting to “little extras” to simply get by and help create the impression that “it’s all good”. These “little extras” can range from alcohol to drugs, to shopping or food, anything that helps you mask those feelings.
3. Fearing that there is something deeply wrong with you.
You wonder how can you possibly feel like this? After all you have so many good things in your life and you have worked hard at sorting everything out. You have honed yourself, your skills and what you have to offer and yet you still feel something is missing and that you’re not enough. Not knowing what to do you just get on with it and try to ignore it, hoping that eventually it will go away.
The problem with each of these strategies, and I have used them all, is that ultimately they are all about trying to ignore the problem and about fearing and disowning parts of ourselves. If we stop hiding from these feelings, they can be the best thing that has ever happened to us. You see these feelings are vital clues about what you need to be attending to.
So often in our culture we attend only to the outer world ignoring the emotional and spiritual dimensions of our being. These feelings are a call from your Soul to evolve and grow. They are calling your attention to what needs to be widened and deepened within you. They are a call to awaken to your full potency and potential.
You see this deep sense that something is missing is a call to empower and awaken your true self. The only question is; will you dare to answer the call?
